  • To an agricultural services business: for the irrigation systems they provide, a simple IC configuration language with web-based and automated control functions.
  • To a manufacturing services business: web-based control of a simple microcontroller for IoT applications.
  • To a start-up business providing home maintenance services: customised front-end and back-end software for enhanced website functionality including Google Maps interfaces and service booking features; database import/export features; improved data integrity and code quality; and project management assistance to the CIO.
  • To a travel agency: an interface to efficiently connect their website to the Tourplan NX online service.
  • To a small business providing Human Resources services: cleansing and transformation of some large HR data sets, thus improving data integrity.

Software system for human-robotic experimentation in action

These photos were taken during an experiment conducted by a defence research organisation to investigate the performance of teams of semi-autonomous robotic vehicles in different configurations. I was the lab's sole software developer and network engineer. The experiment's management and analytical software was built on top of Microsoft Office. The robots' internal control system was implemented in C to run under emulation in Webots and on ARM hardware running the Angstrom operating system. The software suite used by the human operators to track and control the robots was implemented in BBC Basic for Windows. I designed the entire system and the first experiment conducted using it and received a formal certificate of recognition for my efforts. Parts of the system were later deployed for research projects in a university.

Apps developed for education research projects

These screenshots are of apps developed while I was working in a university research centre focused on methematics and science education. They were all implemented in C to run on the RISC OS operating system. This was in the mid-1990's shortly before a new government inflicted massive cuts to education research funding. But times change and now STEM is back in vogue.

A simple web app for teaching AI

This collection of windows shows elements of an online noughts-and-crosses game which I developed as a resource for teaching artificial intelligence and web programming to secondary and tertiary students. As well as allowing two human players, the game can play against one human player or itself. The user interface is implemented in HTML and the AI bot is implemented in JavaScript. The codebase has a modular design allowing most of it to be provided with small parts to be completed by teams of students. Two of the windows are from open source RISC OS apps Thump and OpenVector which I now maintain.
