Web Development and Design

Hi, my name is Emma Macey, Web Developer, Graphic Designer and ongoing Student of the two disciplines. I have excellent communication skills, punctuality, integrity and creativity. I have experience in designing, developing hosting and maintaining web pages through my work with nonprofit organisations and small business. I have a keen eye for detail and a passion for giving a well-rounded professional service to all clients I work with.

I have worked in community services for the last 15 years as a Youthworker. During this time in organisations with little to no design and media budgets, I found my interest in Graphic Design at first, creating event posters and office logos, later I discovered Web design/development to add to my skillset. I work evenings at a youth refuge and during the days I have been working on my education in Web development. My aim is to do freelance design and development full time as my new career.

I learned graphic design using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash. These days, I try my best to contribute to Open Source by using programs such as GIMP (A GNU image manipulation program) and Inkscape (a vector graphics editor). For web development, I use Sublime text editor, I am experienced with major browsers, such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Safari, Windows Explorer and Chromium, I also have a sound understanding in their developer tools I am primarily a Linux (Ubuntu) operating system user, but I am also proficient with Mac OS and Windows operating systems.

I think my first web page for a client was my most memorable, I learnt how to communicate well enough to understand and deliver what they wanted, I learnt how to utilise all the software available to me, I had to figure out how to implement SEO and web marketing on a budget, I was able to watch my first site go live and keep track of the views. My first experience established the foundation for all my future projects and allowed me to learn from the mistakes that I made. I hope I never stop learning and providing a service that I cater to the needs of clients.
