Hi, I'm quite interested in this, it seems like a fascinating project. I was wondering whether you can confirm that all works would be available in terms of copyright? Thanks very much.
UPDATE 16 JUNE 2021: Looking more closely at the platform rules and to better support the community we think it will be more appropriate to list tasks individually, so please keep an eye out for those tasks going forward. They will specify approximate word count and genre for more accurate bids on cost and time.
We asked for expressions of interest last year and based on that response we have a number of tasks ready to go.
We are digitising significant Australian works of fiction, non-fiction, drama and poetry that have gone out of print.
The works have been processed with Optical Character Recognition and exported as Word files, spell-checked and with common errors addressed, but will need to be checked against original scans for typographical and formatting errors, and any corrections will need to be marked up.
No rewriting or copy-editing is needed, just making sure the documents match the original — though obvious typos in the original should be marked up.
Excellent attention to detail and familiarity with spelling/grammar/punctuation conventions will be very helpful. We can offer up to $400 per work depending on length.

I am accurate and efficient. I am highly motivated to provide a quality service. I have experience in contract administration and training and assessment . As I am new to this industry I have priced my bid accordingly
Sounds like a great opportunity to enjoy classic literature while working! I am an avid reader with a good grasp of written English and a keen eye for text errors. I'm still learning how this bidding system works, so please feel free to contact me if you would like to clarify anything or discuss further. Thank you for your consideration.
Hi Lig, I work in marketing and regularly proofread and cross-check digital and print documents to ensure that both the information and formatting is consistent and accurate. Let me know what you have for me!
Copywriter/proofreader/editor and corporate communications professional with 1st Class honours in English Literature at an Australian University (including colonial and modern Australian literature). It would be my pleasure to work a project like this.
I've proofread for the public service in Australia for just under 10 years and have am used to comparing large amounts of text in a short period of time.
I understand this job is preparing OOP material for republication. I have successfully edited for many customers, but this task is about accurate proofreading in which I am experienced. I would create a new Ms Word document and, using track changes, check for typos and formatting errors using Compare on Ms Word Review. I am a native English speaker. My email is dwallis3@gmail.com and you may contact me for more detail if necessary.
I'm an avid reader with time on her hands.
Hi Lig, I have worked as a Library Tech for the last 20 + years. I have a Diploma of proof reading, book editing and publishing. I proof read our digital school newsletter regularly to ensure spelling, grammar and punctuation are correct. I have worked with government departments to both write and proof read ministerial briefs, reports and media releases. I have a great eye for detail and take pride in my ability to be thorough. As a librarian it would be interesting to know what titles you are re- publishing in digital form. Hope to hear from you.
Dear project manager,
I'd like to apply for the position of proofreader as detailed above.
I'm a writer and editor based in NSW, Australia. I have a Graduate Diploma in Professional Writing from the University of Canberra (2009), which included courses in editing and advanced editing.
I've worked with Andromeda Spaceways Magazine for a number of years. My role there involves proofreading each issue with care and attention to detail. I also conduct and edit author interviews, read submissions and provide book reviews. I currently work from home as a freelance writer and editor.
I'm a published author with award nominated short works. I'm familiar with the conventions of grammar, punctuation and spelling, and the importance of a well-polished manuscript.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
With best wishes,
Jessica N
Hi Lig,
I am interested in this project. I do have excellent attention to detail and I have worked on dozens of editing projects.
Look forward to hearing from you.
I am a professional writer and editor in Western Australia, originally from the US. I have been the managing editor of 7 different magazines and a contributing writer to a number of publications. I also have experience in book editing (fiction and non-fiction). My degree is in communication arts with an emphasis in journalism, and I've been writing and editing professionally for more than 20 years.
I have done a fair amount of similar work to this on The Gutenberg Project. This is a volunteer project turning books in the public domain into e-books. Volunteers check the e-page against the original to make sure they are the same. I have enjoy the methodical nature of this work and find it fits my skills of being detail oriented with an excellent grasp of the English language.
I have always had a love of the English language, which led me to become a high school English teacher and then a proofreader/copy editor. I have a keen eye for picking up errors in other's writing (not my own!) and like to work to a deadline.
I would love to be considered for this job and could start straight away.
Hello, I am a professional proofreader who has been freelancing since 2014, with experience in both academic and general work. I have an extensive portfolio of experience. I have proofread several books both at the draft and proof stage. I can offer you accuracy and attention to detail for each work and I can give you a 14 day turnaround on each.
I have been working with complex documents, production, editing and proofreading for 15 years. I am currently doing an editing and proofreading course (with high distinctions) to gain a qualification in this field. I have a keen eye of detail and have the resources to print the material (and securely destroy after job completion) to allow for line by line critiquing of the original and duplicate documents to the highest standard possible.
Any proofreading or editing job is difficult to quote due to the complexity and variances between documents (i.e. a short poem or a text book). I charge $50 (plus GST) per hour for proofreading and average 3,000 words per hour.
Hi there! I'm a writer who's been working freelance for the last few years. I've got a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in Creative and Professional Writing and several years experience in administrative and library-based roles (where attention to detail is critical). I'm also big reader of fiction and nonfiction and would love an opportunity to work on such a brilliant project. If you'd like to see a comprehensive resume/folio, please just let me know.
Not only do I have a wealth of experience in proofreading; it's also my passion. I love nothing more than ensuring accuracy and consistency in any written document that passes by me. For over 20 years I have worked with words on a daily basis, always with the closest attention to detail and meeting the highest level of grammar and punctuation standards. The plan for this project is simple: I would preform a thorough character-by-character proofread of each page against the original and clearly mark up any inconsistencies. I have based my bid on an average word count of 80,000. My rates meet current guidelines for pricing according to IPEd. Please contact me for further information about my relevant experience.
Good question, Jessica! Yes, we have contracts in place with all the copyright-holders to produce new editions of the works.
Thanks!
