I've worked with AWS services for the past few years, and have deployments running secure web environments as well as full kubernetes cluster environments.

I believe using the latest technologies and services, your company can benefit significantly both in the high availability/redundancy, and cost effectiveness factors provided by these newer services.

I am working extensively on AWS and also a certified AWS architect .

Based on your application architecture their are various ways an application can be structured that are both secure and using latest technologies trends.

Using terraform can be used to deploy your solution and it makes the deployment part cloud agnostics or using AWS cloudformation provides excellent supports within AWS in terms of deployment.

Tooling is great from AWS whether you want to use Elastic Beanstalk , ECS (Docker based) or plain EC2 or light sail solution.

Further want kind of traffic is permitted and from which region or IP can secure the instances or application. Make sure the application is highly available.

Cost is also big part which can be optimized to scale down the non-essential resources when not in use. The size of the resources in use also matter in deciding the cost.

Also resource based access should be fine grained via AWS IAM (Identity Access management).
