This report provides an extensive outline for the integration of a new Graphic Novel (GN) collection within the already well-established catalogue of the Logan City Council Libraries (LCCL). Logan City has a population of 313,785 citizens who represent a diverse group of cultural backgrounds, age groups, educational backgrounds and socio-economic demographics. The LCCLs across the region have seen a decline in membership in young adult (YA) patronage which has allowed for librarians to evaluate the relevance of the current collection and what additions can be purchased to entice younger readers to return to the library. In recent years, there has been a resurgence in the popularity of GNs as a valuable literary genre, specifically in the YA audience, and can assist in engaging reluctant readers. Acquisition of titles for the collection will be guided by the LCCL Collection Development Policy and a range of scholarly literature. Selection criteria to also assist in guiding acquisitions will also be applied to titles to ensure relevance, quality, interest, connection and engagement.
