Mark, most of the features go well with the WordPress ( Blog and CMS section ). There are quite a few templates available..wordpress template..tempaltemonosters...themeforest.... that look like the book reading style.. do you have a wire frame or a sketch of this ? Will help a lot...

How many members you are targeting on a daily basis...

For domain and webspace you can go with godaddy or crazy domains.. it is very easy to get one and keep the login details...if you plan to go with Wordpress ..then tell them your website will be in PHP/Mysql as database..if this is bit techy..shoot me the domain name ..will do it...
