About the project

We are a small software company based in Brisbane, wanting to have manuals for our software done up and kept up to date. The information for the manuals should be designed to be a step-by-step guide as to how to use the software. The manuals should explore every option, so they could be passed onto potential partners/clients.

The manuals will need to have screenshots and be similar across the Windows and Mac versions of our software, but specific for that particular operating system (e.g. “open Windows Explorer” and “open Finder”).

We have a manual to begin with, with a basic outline of how the software works. As the job suggests, we will need these manuals/documentation kept up to date as we update our software - we are keen to hire for repeat business if we are satisfied on how you complete the task.

The job would entail:

  • generate step-by-step information of our software in Microsoft Word
  • taking screenshots of the software (you will need access to both Windows and Mac OS X operating systems)
  • writing instructional text
  • updating current manual to include up to date information on our software

    Hi brisbanebiz

I would be happy to create your software 'how to' manuals, including screenshots, for both Mac and Windows.

My past employment includes 3 years experience working as Information Manager for Fluor SKM Iron Ore JV in WA.

    I was:

Responsible for writing and maintaining all Information Management departmental documentation, including policies/procedures, user handbooks, Intranet copy, I.T. 'how to' guides (including Outlook and Adobe Livecycle), meeting minutes and contractual documentation.

Responsible for writing and distributing all departmental communications to the wider corporation, e.g. IT. outages, system roll-outs, software updates, etc.

Primary point of contact for all incoming queries and feedback to the team; responsible for replying within recommended deadline and as per team directives.

I also have a good knowledge of document management, and could provide you with a working system for keeping your manuals updated.

My education includes a BA Honours Degree in English Literature, and a Writing for the Web course. I also enjoy writing short stories and poetry.

I currently work as a freelance writer three days per week. I would estimate this documentation to take approx. 3 weeks to complete (based on 2-3 manuals).

I would however honour the flat fee in all cases, as I would value the opportunity to take on this task.

I hope to hear from you soon.

    Kind Regards

    Eleanor Dix

I prefer an hourly rate, as this is an ongoing job. That way you only pay for the hours used. I also keep a timesheet, which I submit with the invoice, so you know exactly when I worked. I look forward to discussing this with you further.
