About the project

We had a developer build a website for us which acts as a portal for our customers. The portal does scheduling of appointments and has a lot of functionality.

The site is currently slow and we want further functionality. We are looking for a new developer to review the site and do a project to improve the site and add further functionality.

We are looking for someone who:

  1. Can code in java
  2. Understand what we are trying to achieve rather than simply just write code
  3. Take ownership and provide suggestions and advice
  4. Speak fluent english

Thank you for the details, which you provided. However, it is quite important to know more information, to be able to provide you with a reasonably accurate estimate for the effort required.

Can you, please, answer the following questions with as much details as you can.

    1. what is the website address (URL). If you cannot provide this, can you provide the following information about it: a. number of pages b. technologies used (HTML or HTML5, JavaScript, PHP, MySQL) c. If (JavaScript or PHP) is used, how many files are there? d. If (MySQL) is used, how many tables are used, and what is the rough size of each table? Further details might still be required.

    2. What sort of additional functionality is required?

Sorry for the long question. I am trying to avoid disappointing you after starting the project.

By the way, I will be happy to provide an analysis service to help you answer these questions, if you need such help. Obviously, you can “request a service” on ozLance for somebody to analyse the existing site, and come up with answers to the above questions.

Attached is the source code of Capraweb which is an Eclipse project. You won't be able to run this because I have removed all the lib jar files to reduce the size and there are some unfinished code for integration with Mathspace.

For Codes related to calendar operation, please have a look in ajax.ClazzAjax/ClazzRecordAjax and related database handling classes in common.bean, common.dao

The front end javascript is in WebContent.js.appointment.

For a test run, I have setup a test site with the same database dump of the live site (except for emailing feature)

Thank you for the good details.

    I have more questions, though. Sorry ... :) ...

    1. I suppose this is a work-from-home job. Please, confirm.
    2. Do you expect an hourly rate, or a fixed price (total)? If you expect a fixed price, do you have a list of the "further functionality" needed?

    Thank you for your patience...

    • Erikprotzman Client 19 Jul 2014 at 07:37

Yes - you would work remotely. I expect a fixed price quote, with an idea of the hourly rate if further work is required.

  • Bilal Abdeen 19 Jul 2014 at 07:41

Thank you for your super quick response. Do you have a list of the required additional functionality, or your only currently identified issue is speed?

    • Erikprotzman Client 19 Jul 2014 at 07:42

We would do this together in the interview. I would explain exactly what is required for functionality, and you would also add to the list for code improvements. You will have an idea of the code changes required, whereas I will not know this very well.
