What sort of server do you have - windows or linux/unix?

And is PHP available on your web server?

If you have a linux/unix server then PHP is the default server scripting language.

If you have a windows based server then PHP may have to be installed or activated by your service provider.

Also if you are going to be storing client details, including credit card numbers and bank details then you should be running a secure server https://

But if you are only storing contact details (and no credit card numbers and bank details) then it is possible to implement an encryption scheme on a normal http:/ server. It wont stop professional hackers but it would be sufficient to prevent incidental accessing of client contact details.

I have experience in knocking up client/staff portals and I could spend a 40 hour week knocking something up for you and we can take it further from there if you require and adjustments and refinements.

If you are interested I can point you in the direction of two websites I have created and that have staff portals backed by a MySQL database on the web server.

One is for a bush crew company where staff are able enter very complicated daily details for work that might be carried out at mutiple sites. It includes being able to record hours doing different types of activities that might be billed at different hourly rates and the ability to record amounts and type of herbicide mixtures sprayed at each sites...which is a legal requirement.
